THE LIMON YOUTH CAMP & Taste of Yorkin Project
The Caribbean town of Limon, located on the southeast coast, is a colorful cultural display with influences of Jamaican, Chinese, and indigenous people groups. Recently, the city has experienced a rise in social problems such as unemployment, alcoholism, drug use, violence, and crime. Within the city (ppl. 105,000) there is a strong religious presence with churches of all denominations including Catholic, Baptist, 7th Day Adventist, Methodist, and Assemblies of God. We have developed relationships with several churches, pastors and local in focusing on reaching the youth. Many of the youth have taken an active role of service and participation within their church, which has offered them a positive outlet despite the negative influences around them. Our team will strive to offer encouragement and support to the pastors and leaders of these churches, as well as develop friendships and mentoring relationships with youth through a 4-day youth camp and other outreach activities.
